Karen Segal’s photo booth invites you in to a crazy Tivoli world of Harlequins and freaks like the elephant man and the bearded lady. Like at a real old-fashioned amusement park you can stick your head through a hole in a figure and become someone else for a moment and in this case a surreal mix between woman, pirate, Harlequin and animal.

Karen made the freaky figure, because she’s fascinated with masks and changing identity and because she wants people to embrace the quirky and different and distance themselves from normality. Karen always seeks the contrasts and searches for the different and abnormal and maybe that’s why her works often end up being a bit scary in a really beautiful way.
